Welcome to My Photography Blog: Capturing Moments that Last a Lifetime

Welcome to my photography blog! Whether youre a couple planning your dream wedding, a family looking to capture the joy of togetherness, or simply a lover of beautiful images, I’m excited to share my journey, experiences, and the stories behind some of the most unforgettable moments I’ve had the privilege to capture.

In this first blog post, I want to introduce you to my world of photography, discuss my philosophy, share my approach to capturing those perfect shots, and explain why I believe that every image tells a story worth preserving. Let’s dive in!

My Journey into Photography

Photography has always been more than just a job for me—it’s a passion that fuels my creativity and drives me to capture life’s most precious moments. My love for photography started at a young age when I would spend hours observing light, texture, and the way everyday scenes could transform into something magical when viewed through the lens. I started with landscape and street photography, learning how to use natural light and surroundings to tell a story, but it wasn’t long before I found my true passion: documenting life’s milestones, especially weddings.

The first wedding I photographed was a close friend’s, Cynthia, and the emotions, the laughter, the love—it all felt so pure and beautiful. Since then, I’ve been hooked on the idea of freezing time, if only for a moment, to create something that will be cherished forever. Here"s the gallery for Cynthia and Lonnie"s beautiful cowboy-themed wedding in Watsonville, California, amidst the towering redwoods of Mt. Madonna.

My Photography Philosophy

Every photographer has their own unique style, but for me, it’s about creating images that feel real, authentic, and timeless. My goal is not just to take pretty pictures, but to capture the essence of who you are and the story you"re living in that exact moment. I want my clients to look back on their photos and not just remember how they looked, but how they felt.

I believe that the best photographs are those that aren’t overly posed. While there’s a place for formal portraits, I’m always on the lookout for those in-between moments: the laughter between a bride and groom when they think no one is watching, the tears of joy from a proud parent, or the giggles from children running around during family sessions. Those are the moments that tell the real story, and those are the moments I aim to capture.

Why I Love Wedding Photography

Wedding photography holds a special place in my heart. Weddings are such emotional, love-filled events, and being able to document those memories for my clients is a privilege I don’t take lightly. Every wedding is unique, and that’s what I love most about it—the unpredictability, the excitement, and the challenge of capturing something so deeply personal.

From the quiet moments as a bride gets ready to the grand celebration during the reception, I strive to capture every detail. A wedding isn’t just a big party; it’s a reflection of a couple’s love story, their personalities, and the commitment they’re making to each other. My job is to tell that story through images so that decades from now, you can relive those moments as vividly as you did on the day itself.

One of my favorite parts of the wedding day is the “first look,” whether it’s the bride’s first look with her father or with the groom. Those moments are packed with emotion, and I always feel honored to be there to capture the reactions—both expected and unexpected. These are often some of the most genuine, heartfelt shots of the day.

The Power of Candid Moments

Some of the most powerful photographs I’ve taken weren’t planned—they just happened. That’s the magic of candid photography. Life moves fast, especially during events like weddings, but it’s in those unscripted, fleeting moments that true emotions come through.

I often tell my clients to try and forget the camera is there. The best photographs come when you’re lost in the moment, laughing with your loved ones, shedding a tear during a heartfelt speech, or dancing like no one’s watching. Candid moments don’t need direction—they just need to be caught at the right time. And that’s where the magic of photography comes in.

The Art of Wedding Portraiture

While I love capturing spontaneous moments, wedding portraiture is an art form in its own right. This is when I get to slow things down and create those iconic, timeless images that couples will want to frame and hang on their walls. I work closely with each couple to ensure that these portraits reflect their personalities and the beauty of their relationship.

When it comes to wedding portraits, the location plays a huge role. I’ve been fortunate to shoot at some breathtaking venues, from majestic redwood groves to charming vineyards, and every setting offers something unique. I love incorporating natural surroundings into my portraits, using the landscape as a canvas to highlight the couple’s connection.

Working with Families and Couples

In addition to weddings, I also specialize in family and couples photography. Whether it’s an engagement session, maternity photos, or a family portrait, I believe every session should feel fun, relaxed, and natural. I strive to create an atmosphere where my clients can be themselves, allowing me to capture their authentic personalities and relationships.

Family photography is all about celebrating the bonds that tie us together. The playful interaction between siblings, the tender moments between parents and children—these are the kinds of images that will grow in value as the years go by.

Couples photography, on the other hand, is all about telling the love story. Whether it’s for an engagement session or an anniversary, my goal is to capture the chemistry and connection between two people. I love finding ways to bring out the playfulness and romance in each couple, creating images that reflect the unique dynamics of their relationship.

Working with Vendors

One thing that always stands out to me in wedding photography is how a team of skilled vendors can transform a wedding day into something truly magical. From the florist to the caterer, DJ, and wedding coordinator, each vendor plays a crucial role in making the day unforgettable.

I’ve had the pleasure of working with some incredible vendors who have elevated the weddings I’ve photographed. Whether it’s the stunning floral arrangements from a local florist, the delicious food provided by a talented caterer, or the seamless organization by a top-notch wedding planner, these professionals make the day run smoothly and beautifully. I’ll be highlighting some of my favorite vendors in future blog posts, so stay tuned for more on that!
